Civil War

Jefferson Davis

Jefferson Davis contributed to the Civil War because he was the president of the Confederate States of America.  He wanted to be the general of the Confederacy, but Lee was a better choice.  He was elected president because he was a pushover and the Confederate States could do whatever they wanted.  Davis had a moderate view on the war, meaning he didn't feel that either side was completely right.  He was in the middle.  He thought both sides had some good points.  "I worked night and day for twelve years to prevent the war, but I could not. The North was mad and blind, would not let us govern ourselves, and so the war came."- quoted from Jefferson Davis.
