Civil War
The economies of the North and the South were causes of the Civil War because they were so different.  The North had factories and sewing shops, while the South had plantations.  Slaves were also an important part of the difference in economies.  The cotton gin made having slaves a necesity for the South because it sped up the rate at which they could produce cotton.  The North did not depend on slaves and every time a new state was added, both sides wated it to be on their side.  The North, wanting it not to have slaves.  The South wanting it to have slaves.

Cotton Gin in the South

Picture
The cotton gin was created by Eli Whitney.  It sped up cotton production in the South, which caused a need for more slaves to pick the cotton quicker.  This invention allowed the South to profit much more than their already bountiful income.
